DAY & NIGHT
Skyline of Rotterdam
First idea on sketch and the end result

Graphics and scale
From a former selection of 42 buildings and three bridges, the
choice has fallen on ten of these and the Erasmus bridge.
On a row, the Belvedere, De Rotterdam (delivery 2010), Delftse Port, Euro mast,
Millennium
Tower,
Port of Rotterdam, Montevideo, Cubic houses & Pencil and the WTC.

Of course one building can be substituted by another on request.
Buildings and Town Arms in wax
The originals in wax are in possession of double sided and
contrasting relief.
This has as a result that after applying the patina on the bronze the deeper lying
structure will retain the last color (lightest) applied, all high relief will
after buffing show glimmers of the underlying bronze. The day and night
situation will appear on the buildings lined along the dish as the skyline of
Rotterdam.

Every shape will have it's own mould and will be cast separate in order to guarantee the
highest quality. All the forms are slightly curved to later fit the curves
of the bowl.
The Erasmus bridge will be the greatest challenge because of it's stringing.
Town arms of Rotterdam in wax and patinated bronze
The high relief plaque will also be converted into deep relief.
This inverted disc will be used as the foot of the bowl.
Combining the two I will also be making a plaque in the form of a large coin.
Fitting
Fitting all buildings and the bridge whilst creating a cadence
that pleases the eye helps to create the right results.

Bowl
Sand poured in bronze
Left the support mould necessary for
bedding the wax form in the sand.
